For young children, a Stereo Microscope is one of the most useful gifts you can provide them with to nurture their curiosity and creativity. Usually, it is of lower power than a Compound Microscope with magnification levels at approximately 10X-40X. And as children can study whole albeit small objects like flowers, insects and rocks as well as Prepared Slides under it, they will have fun with the device.
However, children being what they are, you will need to supervise their activities with the microscope. This will ensure their safety and prolong the life of the equipment.
Set-Up
First and foremost, make sure that the microscope is placed on a flat surface, preferably a tabletop, with plenty of room for working purposes. It must be within easy reach of the person using it whilst still securely within the working area's perimeter. You don't want your expensive stereo microscope shattering at your feet, do you?
Second, ensure that you plug the microscope into the appropriate outlet. Just follow specification on this matter to avoid mishaps. Plus, make sure that excess cord is safely positioned - think hidden - such that no one will trip on it.
Third, use either the bottom lighting or top lighting of the stereo microscope to have the best view of the target. For opaque objects, use top lighting while transparent objects mounted on slides view best in bottom lighting.
Now that you have properly set up your microscope and work station, it's time to let your kids enjoy the show.
Use
When placing your specimen under the stereo microscope, use the stage clips when and where necessary. For example, specimens that curl up at the side can be studied better when it lies flat upon the stage.
However, if your specimen is considerably larger than the stage, it's a good idea to unclip the stage clips. This way, you have more room to work with the specimen under study.
When focusing, you can either turn the focus knob or turn the specimen. The trick is in making sure that the specimen is directly under the Objective Lens. Plus, be sure to focus as slowly as possible to avoid eye strain.
For small children, you have to supervise them by looking at the eyepiece once in a while. You have to guide them, too, in using the equipment as sudden turns can affect the device's future performance.
Maintenance
As soon as you are finished using the stereo microscope, you have to turn off the switch, remove the target/specimen, unplug the power cord, and then cover it with its Dust Cover. All these precautions are necessary to prevent the microscope from faster wear and tear.
And you don't use just about any cleaning solvent on your microscope either! For the body, use a soft dry cloth to wipe away the dust on the exterior while a non-solvent cleaning solution is best for the lenses' exterior side and a bulb-type duster for its interior side.
In all these activities, keep in mind that a stereo microscope is a delicate and dear piece of equipment in more ways than one. As such, care must be exercised when using and maintaining it. This way, you and your children can enjoy many more adventures in the world of microscopy!

Is This An E bay Scam Or Is It Genuine?
I was looking at getting a microscope and I've seen this one on ebay (Copy Paste Link)

Is this safe to buy it just seems really cheap for this sort of microscope any ideas?
If the seller is 100% then dont worry about it, but I have just looked at this sellers feedback and he has 5 negatives with customers complaining of the goods he is sending out being of very cheap quality but also the first of his posotives are about buying the smae things and most customers seem quite happy. If you are a professional I would be wary but it is up to you what you are going to do! Be careful some times somethings are just too good to be true

One of the main reasons why it may be necessary to do eye strengthening exercises is that a person's job requires that they have to work in front of a computer screen for long hours. Or, it can even be due to watching too much television and without taking a break to allow your eyes to rest and relax. Too much exposure to the computer screen and also to the television screen will result in straining the eyes that will tire out and become weak.
In addition to working in front of a computer screen for long hours or watching uninterrupted television programs for lengthy periods of time, a poor diet also helps to weaken a person's eyesight which then gives rise to the need to do eye strengthening exercises.
One of the simplest eye exercises that you can perform in order to strengthen your eyes is to sit on a chair with your legs crossed and with your eyes looking straight ahead. Then you will need to inhale and also turn up your eyes to the right and then a few seconds later you need to bring the eyes back to the center while you also exhale at the same time.
Then you will need to repeat the exercise but this time you will need to move your eyes to the left. Again inhale and then when exhaling bring your eyes back to the center. This exercise can really help to strengthen your eyes.
Another simple exercise to strengthen your eyes is to simply roll your eyes in a circular motion. What's more, you can also try turning your gaze to the right while also lifting up your eyes and inhaling at the same time. After this, you will have to move your eyes to the left but in the downward direction and also exhale at the same time. Such an exercise will certainly help to keep your eyes in good shape.

Glycerin may sometimes be spelled as glycerine and is a substance commercially known and used. It contains glycerol. However, the three terms are used interchangeably.
Man has seen glycerine as one of the most multipurpose and important substance. It is used in a wide range of products because of the distinctive characteristics. Its set of physical and chemical properties has made it a versatile organic compound. Food products, cosmetics, toiletries, and drugs are just a few products to which the chemical substance is employed as a constituent or a part of the processing. The compound is known in more than a thousand uses and applications.
Compared to most industrial substances, glycerine has a considerably high stability when stored under normal conditions. It usually does not react with other chemicals and is generally compatible with other materials. This substance is not known as toxic or irritating upon contact with any part of the human body. Moreover, it does not harm the environment.
This viscous liquid has no odor and color. It is hydrophilic or water-loving. Hence, it is miscible in water. This solubility in water is due to the presence of three hydroxyl groups. These hydroxyl components are also responsible for its hygroscopic nature. The compound is known as a sugar alcohol because of the presence of the hydroxyl groups. Nevertheless, glycerol is a main component of lipids and has a sweet taste. In animal fats and vegetable oils, this complex organic compound occurs in combined molecules of triglycerides.
The organic compound is obtained during saponification and transesterification. Saponification is the process involving a chemical reaction between an alkaline and a fat or oil to form soap. Transesterification is a chemical reaction between an alcohol and an ester involving an exchange of organic groups. Simplifying this definition, glycerol is obtained during soap-making and biodiesel production. Synthetic form of the compound may be produced from petrochemical building blocks.
Glycerin found for commercial use contains high concentrations of glycerol. This high concentration is achieved through subsequent concentration and purification. No matter how this chemical is produced it needs to be on the right concentration for commercial applications. This means high levels of purity with high concentrations of glycerol.
The food and beverage industry utilizes the chemical due to its hygroscopic properties. It serves as a humectant, a sweetener, a solvent and a preservative. In prepared or manufactured foods containing low amounts of fat, the substance serves as a filler. In liquors, it acts as a thickening component. A teaspoon of this organic substance has 27 calories and is about sixty percent as sweet as table sugar or sucrose. It relatively contains the same amount of energy as table sugar but it does not increase levels of blood sugar. This is why it is found in sugar substitutes. Bacteria, which may result to plaques and dental cavities, never feed on glycerol.
The American Dietetic Association classifies the organic chemical as a carbohydrate. The caloric density of table sugar and glycerol is the same, but the former has a higher glycemic index, which could be attributed to the different metabolic pathways of each compound in the body. Thus, people who follow less carbohydrate diet use this organic compound as a sweetener and a sugar substitute.

Nitroglycerine or glycerol trinitrate (GTN) is an explosive liquid and is an important constituent of explosives such as dynamite.
