LCD Screens Transforming Digital Signage and Advertising in Restaurants and Retail Stores
It is not hard to understand why LCD displays screens are rapidly being adopted by retail stores and restaurants. InfoTrends conducted a digital signage study where they polled consumers and found that "digital signage displays have a 47.7% effectiveness on brand awareness, increase the average purchase amount by 29.5%, create a 31.8% upswing in overall sales volumes, generate a 32.8% growth in repeat buyers and generate 32.8% more in-store traffic". Lcd Display screens are being used by restaurants for displaying the menu and entertainment, by garment and clothing retail stores to show videos of fashion shows and to showcase various products, and by automobile dealers as video walls to provide the feel of the car on the road and to keep the customer occupied as they wait for sales agent or other people.
LCD Display Usage in Restaurants: When visiting KFC Hyderabad (India), what grabs your attention is not so much the smell of food but the vibrant colours of the four 42-inch LCD display panels which serves as the overhead menu board. KFC Hyderabad sought the help of Sharp Business Systems India (http://www.sbsil.com) to set up the digital signage solution. LCD digital menus can be maintained from a remote central location or a local PC set up in the store. The benefit of remote central management is that menu, promotions, video, pricing and other items displayed on the LCD displays in the retail outlet can be managed from one central location to provide consistency and to make sure that the changes are made consistently across all stores at the same time. Consumers receive dynamic previews of the offering with potential for positive impact on sales. If restaurants have the networked point-of-sale cash registers collecting time based purchased data, marketing can get instantaneous feedback on how different promotions and pricing are having impact on sales. Restaurants are also using LCD displays as televisions to spruce up the restaurant atmosphere. It is now a common expectation to have LCD TVs in restaurants that show the local sports or the news.
LCD Display Usage in Showrooms: Whether it is women clothing store, automobile showroom, convenient store or a department store, LCD displays are appearing in all these locations. A typical store has up to four LCD displays per site. InfoTrends study showed that business that had installed displays in their showroom, predominantly expected the display usage in their showrooms to increase. To grab and hold consumer attention, retailers are using LCD displays in a video-wall format or in a daisy chain format along with stand alone units. The content could be a mixture of video along with text or a combination. The goal is to target specific customers with specific information and this information may change with the time of the day - creating a retail company-owned, closed-circuit television network that runs nothing but the retail company programming.
Why do Retail Businesses Select LCD Displays vs. Plasma Displays? There are a number of reasons why retailers and restaurants are selecting LCD display over plasma displays.
· Fan-less Architecture of LCDs: LCD displays do not have a fan potentially resulting in less noise and distraction. This is less of an issue with newer higher end plasma displays, however it is worthwhile to keep track as you evaluate the two options.
· Rugged Design of LCDs: LCD displays are closed-box units and more rugged. There is less chance of oil fumes, dust or other elements getting into the unit and reducing the life of the unit.
· Resolution and Picture Quality: (A) Video resolution on LCD displays and plasma display are comparable but computer data is better observed on LCD displays. (B) LCDs are better to view in ambient light or in brightly lit rooms. As businesses usually work during the day in ambient light, LCDs are more desirable for most business applications. (C) Plasma manufacturers have made much of their viewing angles. However with new LCDs the view angles are 176°. There is not much difference between the two technologies in viewing angle. (D) There have been concerns with burn-in for Plasma screens especially for static images. However, many Plasma manufacturers have improved their anti-burn in technology. There are no burn-in issues with LCD screens.
· Life of the Display Unit: LCDs can be operated 24x7 for 50,000+ hours equivalent to 5+ years of continuous viewing. Plasma, on the other hand, typically has a half life of 30,000 hours. At half life, the phosphors in a plasma screen will glow half as brightly as they did when the set was new. There is no way to replace these gases; the display simply continues to become dimmer with use. An LCD TV will last as long as its backlight - and in many models the backlight bulbs can be easily replaced!
· Power Consumption: Plasma TVs use more power than LCD - twice as much Technology for both plasma and LCD display continues to change. Be sure to check updates to the technology for apple to apple comparison

Black, Yellow and Chocolate Lab Names for Your Labrador Retriever
Looking for ideas for Labrador Retriever names? Lets face it, this breed is one, if not THE most popular dog breed in the world. And because of this it deserves a name that's as special as the dog itself.
Sure, you could come up with any dog name, but why not try to find a name that actually fits? A name that reflects this dogs intelligence, sociable nature, or even it's physical characteristics like it's color.
Since we believe that special dogs deserve special names, when coming up with the Labrador Retriever dog names shown below, we chose 3 lab name categories that we felt would help you to think a bit out of the box when it comes to selecting the best Labrador Retriever names. These categories are…
General Lab Names…
These general names were chosen and suggested simply because we felt they would sound good on a lab. We didn't feel that just any dog name would fit this particular breed. As an example, Fifi would be a great Poodle name, but not on a lab. Here's a few dog name suggestions that we thought might be a good match…
Cassidy: This name has a friendly, easy going sound to it, and it seems to be a good match with this breeds temperament.
Charisma: Somebody who has charisma is someone with personal magnetism. If you've noticed that your lab is drawing a lot of attention, then the name Charisma might be an appropriate match.
Fetch: A good name match for a dog that’s a Retriever.
Jazz: A smooth and cool sounding name, and one that might appeal to a music loving owner.
Ricochet: For the lab that’s all over the place!
Other General Lab Name Ideas…
Amanda, Bailey, Bandanna, Boone, Cabo, Caboodle, Cha-Cha, Chelsea, Cheyenne, Cody, Denali, Hailey, Kahuna, Maui, Rio, Sierra, Tango, Tiara
Black or Chocolate Lab Names…
Should you be the proud owner of a Retriever whose color is black or chocolate, here's some name suggestions and a list of names that might be a good fit for it's dark color…
Java: For an energetic black lab that doesn't need caffeine.
Kahlua: A good match for a chocolate lab whose owner is fond of either this famous drink, or Hawaii from where it originates, or both!
Panther: For the lab that's as stealthy and sleek as a black panther.
Sable: Named after the highly valued black sable fur, the lab given this name should be one that carries itself well and that knows its special.
Other Black Or Chocolate Lab Name Ideas…
Aurora, Coco, Ebony, Eightball, Espresso, Hoodlum, Luna, Midnight, Nighthawk, Phantom, Raven, Salem, Shadow, Star, Storm, Taboo
Yellow Lab Names…
Blondes have more fun! So giving your yellow lab a name that highlights its beautiful coloration will make it stand paws above the rest. Here's a few naming suggestions and a list of names after things that are bright or yellow…
Butter: Don't laugh, but I encountered a yellow lab recently who owned this very memorable and unique name. I'll never forget having met Butter!
Marilyn: For the blonde lab whose owner is a Marilyn Monroe fan. This sultry pooch draws the attention of everyone as it enters the room one hip at a time!
Sundance: This energetic dog brightens everyone's day.
Other Yellow Lab Name Ideas…
Amber, Autumn, Blondie, Chiquita, Daisy, Ember, Garbo, Goldie, Harlow, Meadow, Omelet, Paris, Sandy, Sahara, Savanna, Sunny, Zsa Zsa
When looking for Labrador Retriever Names, they're easy to find when you consider your labs temperament and physical characteristics when choosing a name. If you take care to choose the right one, not only will your dog appreciate it, but he will also attract more attention…thus more petting, playing and treats!

What can cause an MP3 player to sound staticky?
I had an RCA Lyra mp3 player that worked fine until one day I got too close to a satellite dish my college's computer lab uses for the Internet...then I tried to listen to my player and it was all static...was I too close to some kind of magnetic field or something? Can a satellite dish mess up an mp3 player or could it have been something else?
No, a satellite dish wouldn't ruin your mp3 player. I work in television and know exactly how those things work. You probably have a bad connection from your headphones to the jack. Or it could be an internal problem. Get new headphones for starters. If that doesn't work, take it to an electronic repair shop or get a new one.

Would you like to add a science fiction theme to your next vacation? Here are some ideas.
Travel Back in Time
There are many ways you can add a little time travel to your next vacation. You could go to a Renaissance Faire, visit a dinosaur museum or take in a historical reenactment. Pretty much every state hosts a Renaissance festival and you can easily find them by typing in the term "Renaissance festival" into your favorite search engine. If you enjoy a good jousting tournament and are fond of Elizabethan England, a Ren faire is for you.
If your tastes in time travel go back a bit further, there are plenty of museums and amusement parks that feature the terrible lizards of the Cretaceous period. When I was growing up, I loved to visit the California Academy of Sciences Kimball Natural History Museum in Golden Gate Park and take in the skeleton of the Tyrannosaurus Rex in the main foyer. If you look, you can find all sorts of "living museums" where volunteers and/or actors stay in character from a specific period of time. Pine after the colonial period? Visit Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, where you can walk through re-enactments of 18th century U.S.
Space Exploration
Visit your local planetarium... or the planetarium in the city you're going to visit... and you'll have the opportunity to explore space. The Adler Planetarium in Chicago is very nice, as well as located on Lake Michigan and near the Field Natural History Museum, which was featured in the horror film, The Relic. I took this one in during a 7-hour layover in Chicago.
When in Los Angeles, you can drive out to Griffith Park to see the Samuel Oschin Planetarium at Griffith Observatory. It's a little out of the way, but you can get spectacular views of the night sky from its location. The Hayden Planetarium in New York City is home to the famous "Hayden Sphere" and is where Neil deGrasse Tyson, host of NOVA ScienceNOW, is based.
20,000 Leagues Beneath the Sea
Visit the right aquarium and you'll get a taste of what it might have been like for Captain Nimoy of Jules Verne's adventure novel 20,000 Leagues Beneath the Sea. Believe it or not, the Shark Reef Aquarium at Madalay Bay in Las Vegas provides a very nice underwater experience as part of its shark exhibit. You walk through a glass tunnel and can watch the sharks swimming overhead.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium, which was featured in Star Trek IV, is one of the best aquariums I've been to. The 10-meter giant kelp forest exhibit gives you a real underwater experience, too. I also enjoyed my visit to the Shed Aquarium in Chicago (also during that 7-hour layover). They have an excellent selection of animal encounters where you can get up close and personal with turtles, snakes and even tarantulas (no, thank you for me).
Alien Invasion
If you're going to be in New Mexico, you really should check out the UFO Museum & Research Center in Roswell. The best time to go is in July, when the annual festival takes place. If you're heading out to Portland, Ore., you'll want to check out The Portland Alien Museum. While you're there, you could make a less than 150-mile trek to Seattle, where you'll find the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame.
If you would like to read more about places to visit that have a horror, science fiction or fantasy twist, visit The Genre Traveler, the travel resource for SF/F/H enthusiasts. From science fiction museum exhibits to epic fantasy film locations to horror film fests, The Genre Traveler covers it all. Find more articles like this one at http://www.thegenretraveler.com.
Red Ear Slider Aquarium?
I have a red ear slider and im just wondering if i can leave him in the aquarium with my huge pear gourami? Ive left him ther before and all he does is swim around and the fish dont seem to mind but im concerned if hes having difficulty swimming all the way up ( a meter ) to the surface to breath. Is he ok with being constantly under water?
Turtles can drown if they do not have a basking area to provide land. They can get exhausted. Other then that they are very strong swimmers.
